What We Do
MTC provides online theological instruction geared for lay members of congregations to help them deepen their knowledge of the Christian faith and develop their ability to serve alongside ordained clergy.
MTC students serve in a variety of roles such as congregational board members, elders, deacons, Sunday School teachers, evangelists, etc. Frankly, anyone who is looking to serve apart from becoming an ordained minister is an ideal candidate for MTC classes.
How it Works
MTC implements a web-based version of the "flipped classroom" teaching strategy. In this model, students view short videos, read articles or textbooks, and work on assignments independently. They then meet once a week with their instructors in an online video session to discuss material and develop skills.
Want to get started?
Step 1: Talk with your pastor and congregational leaders
If you are thinking about taking a course, the most important step is to get the support of your pastor and fellow congregational leaders. Share with them your vision of how the courses you plan to take will fit in with the overall ministry of your congregation.
Step 2: Fill out MTC Enrollment Form
Fill out MTC’s Enrollment Form and pay a one-time fee to let us know you are interested in taking a course. Once we have received your form we will send additional information and instructions and will be available to answer any additional questions you might have.
Step 3: Select Your Course
After you have enrolled as a student at MTC you will be eligible to take courses. Simply select the course you are interested in and purchase it through our online store. You will receive an email from our office providing you with what you need to participate.
Step 4: Enroll in Canvas
Students who have registered for an MTC course for the first time are sent a link to create a free account with Canvas. Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) that allows students to access course materials such as videos, articles, and assignments as well as engage in online discussions with their peers and instructors. All courses taught by MTC are delivered through the Canvas platform.
Step 5: Use Zoom for Video Learning
Students will engage with their instructors over video conferencing through Zoom. Most MTC courses are designed so the students meet once per week with their instructor. Students can join video sessions either through their web browser or by downloading and installing Zoom on their device. The meeting link will be available in the Canvas classroom.
