Course Description

MTC015 KNOWING AND ENGAGING IN YOUR COMMUNITY

This course will examine methods which help students appreciate and make meaningful connections with people in the community in which their congregation or ministry is located. A major portion of the course is focused on developing skills and strategies to know and engage the local community.

4 weeks / 8 hours

Goals and Objectives

MTC

MTC students will
  1. ground their lives in the truth of God’s Word.
  2. translate their knowledge and skills into mission action.
  3. serve as unifying mission leaders in their communities.
  4. pursue ongoing learning for service in mission and ministry.

COURSE

Knowing Objectives (Cognitive Formation): The student will

  1. demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the skills needed to exegete a community.
  2. demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the skills and strategies needed to engage
    in community outreach.

Being Objectives (Spiritual Formation): The student will

  1. exhibit characteristics of a spiritual missionary, whose habit for life and ministry centers in
    the Lord Jesus Christ found in Scripture.
  2. acquire an appreciation for the local community, its values, beliefs, and worldviews.
  3. seek means to communicate the Gospel by removing cultural and communicative barriers.

Doing Objectives (Conative Formation): The student will

  1. demographically and culturally analyze a community.
  2. determine appropriate outreach responses for effectively communicating the Gospel.
