Course Description

MTC009 GOD’S MISSION IN THE CHURCH FROM THE TIME OF CHRIST TO AD1500

This course explores God’s mission as it worked out in the first 15 centuries of Christ’s Church, with implications for knowing the presence, power, and purpose of God in our time, in our life, and in our calling.

4 weeks / 8 hours

Goals and Objectives

MTC

MTC students will
  1. ground their lives in the truth of God’s Word.
  2. translate their knowledge and skills into mission action.
  3. serve as unifying mission leaders in their communities.
  4. pursue ongoing learning for service in mission and ministry.

COURSE

Being Objectives (Spiritual Formation): The student will

  1. recognize the ever-present guidance of the Holy Spirit in the Church and in the world.
  2. grow in Wisdom—discerning God and God’s ways.
  3. be compassionate, especially toward Christians in other times, cultures, and contexts.
  4. attend to the presence and power of the Triune God in Christ’s Church.
  5. grow in discerning the implications of the above for one’s own context.

Knowing Objectives (Cognitive Formation): The student will

  1. learn how God has worked in history through the Church to accomplish His mission.
  2. learn a basic historical overview of the movement of God’s mission through His Church.

Doing Objectives (Conative Formation): The student will

  1. research an historical instance of the Christian Church from the time of Christ until AD1500 which is intriguing or pertinent to the student’s ministry context.
  2. apply knowledge gained appropriately in contemporary ministry contexts.
